Coherence of the First Order

God yes, let’s all have that! Mostly the phrase itself, but the definition has loopy fun figurative potential, and the final sentence may eat your brain. I’m enjoying imagining the italics are for emphasis, because this recursive business is really serious right now everybody!

When I lack coherence of the first order, I feel like this looks…

…like a Small-Headed Orbus (1), whence if really first-order incoherent I usually proceed to Pop-eyed Squarglemouth (2).

  1. Actually, this makes me feel a whole lot better about those days when I can achieve only coherence of the second order. At least I’m not a pop-eyed squarglemouth.
